A bit about them: 

Clayton Wells is the noted Sydney chef and restauranteur of fine-dining establishment, Automata and contemporary eatery, A1 Canteen. Growing up in Western Sydney, Wells had dreams of becoming an architect. Yet, come work experience as a cook, he had found something he truely loved to do.

Moving through the motions of cooking in hotels, pubs and local restaurants, Wells spent years gaining experience in the Sydney hospitality scene before moving into chef positions at city based eateries.

Wells has worked as Head Chef at the iconic, Quay, Junior Sous Chef at Tatsuya’s, and helped launch the prestigious Momofuku Seiobo.

In 2015, Wells launched Automata, and soon after, A1 Canteen in 2018 with his take on up-market casual dining. Since opening, Automata has earned the title of Australia’s Hottest Restaurant by The Weekend Australia over two consecutive years, and was awarded 2-hats in the The Sydney Morning Herald Good Food Guide, and Australian Gourmet Traveller’s Restaurant Guide 2017 and 2018.
