A bit about them:
Emma McCaskill has carved out a career in the hospitality industry that spans over 18 years, working in some of the world’s most respected restaurants including Narisawa (Tokyo), Ezard (Melbourne), and most recently Sparkke at the Whitmore’s Fare restaurant (Adelaide).
Whilst working as Head Chef at Sparkke at the Whitmore, menu change was frequent, with a focus on seasonal produce in a celebration of McCaskill’s Anglo-Indian heritage. In just a few short months since opening and standing in the role, the restaurant was awarded ‘Best New Restaurant’ by South Australia’s Delicious Hottest 100.
With the onset of COVID-19 impacting restaurants across the country, McCaskill has seen this as opportunity for change, only recently stepping down from her position as Head Chef.
“The Covid situation gave me a bit of room to think about next steps... I got to a point where there’s things I want to do that I won’t be able to do if I stay in the same role.” (Broadsheet)
During the pandemic and the move to take-away only formats, McCaskill has had a hand in Chefs On Wheels, delivering chef-standard ready made meals across Adelaide. Spear-headed alongside former chef of Botanic Gardens Restaurant, Paul Baker, wife Anabelle and Soi 38’s Terry Intarakhamhaeng, they have been creating waves during this unsettling time.
McCaskill will now focus her time working in a consultancy role for Sparkke, and spending more time with her young children- something she is looking forward to the most!
